School Wide Training
As teachers, we are always learning more about how students learn material best, the ways to instruct them most beneficially, and how to improve ourselves professionally. There are many different things to learn about regarding teaching. These things include classroom management, planning techniques, and the personal view regarding the philosophy of education.
In a Democratic Society
Living democratically is important not only in our classrooms, but in our schools, state, and country as a whole. Students thrive with some choice in what will happen to them, yet there are a lot of things altering our ability to connect as well with our students. We are caught up in the technology gap where students are at a much higher level than we are. The importance of one-on-one talks, whether it be during tutoring, through a webpage, or a conversation during class, always remains. Students need to constantly try to set a good example for their students of what it looks like to be a contributing member of society.

Bulletin Boards
It is very important to stay up to date with what is going on throughout America related to teaching. Educating ourselves will better educate our students with these changes. Bulletin boards are a very handy way to keep students up to date with current issues. Working as a Resident Assistant, (RA), provided me with an opportunity to educate my students on various issues surrounding them. I found having the current topic being covered in class, the ways that particular subject can make money, and various Allendale events were a great way to keep students interested in reading the board and learning about mathematics. I made a more in-depth bulletin board related to making money using mathematics by looking at all the different math courses offered at Allendale high school and determining careers where this material is readily used. Another bulletin board highlighted the importance of taking time for walks outside and encouraged students to take these walks, bring back something they found related to nature, and provided some humorous comments regarding nature. In another bulletin board I designed a risk game for GVSU. My residents on my floor took part in the game, each beginning with one of the campus buildings and working to take over the entire campus. I hope to make this activity for my future students on some level in my future high school.
